Fortis Escorts Hospital installs Electro Physiology Lab in Rajasthan

Also announces commencement of State’s first ‘Pacemaker Clinic’

Jaipur, June 10, 2008: Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur, today announced the commissioning of Rajasthan’s first fully functional Electro Physiology Laboratory.

The laboratory, now an integral part of the Department of Interventional Cardiology, has the latest hi-tech equipments for accurate diagnosis along with early and effective treatment of heart patients suffering from arrhythmia and coronary artery diseases.

Fortis Escorts Hospital at Jaipur is the first functional set up in Rajasthan which offers advanced Electrophysiology for arrhythmia patients on a regular basis. Arrhythmia is a disorder of the regular rhythmic beating of the heart caused by abnormal heart tissues and an abnormal electrical conduction system of the heart.

On the occasion, Fortis Escorts also announced the commencement of a Pacemaker Clinic, which is another first in Rajasthan. While Pacemaker implantation is going on in the state for decades, there has never been any regular one-point facility for follow up and programming of these Pacemakers. Any patient with a pacemaker – irrespective of its make or model – can now follow up at this centre to check the instrument’s proper functioning.

The patients from Rajasthan will benefit immensely from the new facility as now they will not have to travel to other bigger cities outside Rajasthan for such advanced and specialized treatment. Moreover the treatment is priced 20-30% lower as compared to other places.

Dr Karan Singh Yadav, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Alwar, was present to launch the state’s first state of the art facilities.

The hospital’s Electrophysiology Lab, which has the high-end Electrophysiology equipment GE-Prucka IT Version 6.5, offers the facility of a 3-D Mapping System, which helps the identification of tissues that give rise to irregular heart beats. Such tissues are subsequently removed through catheter ablation, a very precise technique where abnormal tissues are burnt with very high-frequency radio waves, curing the patient of troublesome, and often dangerous arrhythmia.

  • Rajasthan’s first fully functional EPS Lab.
  • State’s first Pacemaker Clinic.
  • Patients in Rajasthan will not have to travel to bigger cities outside Rajasthan for high-end treatment.
  • Costs 20-30% less than other places .

The advanced capabilities of Prucka IT Version 6.5 will be especially useful in complex cases of arrhythmia where heart beat irregularity arises from multiple abnormal tissues of the heart. Better identification of abnormal tissues will help in pin-pointing the locations and ensure only minimal tissues are destroyed leaving the patient with a healthier heart.

Dr Karan Singh Yadav, Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Alwar, said, “Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur, with the commissioning of the Electro Physiology Lab and the Pacemaker Clinic, has taken cardiac care in Rajasthan to a level above. Patients from Rajasthan, who were earlier forced to travel to other big cities outside Rajasthan, can now get the best treatment in Jaipur.”

Dr Praneet Kumar, Chief Operating Officer & Director Quality Assurance, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur, said, “The Electro Physiology Lab is a testimony to our commitment to offer high-end treatment and personalized care backed by the most experienced team of doctors to all our patients in future. We have endeavoured to keep the cost low and our rates will be 20-30% lower than those in other cities.”

Dr Jitendra Makkar, Consultant, Cardiology & Electrophysiology, said, “The Electro Physiology Lab is a boon for arrhythmia patients. Patients, who complain of palpitations, or have fast heart beats, and those who have suffered episodes of unconsciousness can avail of the new facility.“Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur, which will be completing its first year of operations in August, has so far treated close to 10,000 heart patients.

Dr Jitendra Makkar, Consultant Cardiology & Electrophysiology, has been widely recognized and feted for his pioneering work. He is an active cardiologist and an expert electro physiologist. He has many landmark surgeries to his credit, including implantation of ICD’s pacemakers and CRT. He has perfomed innumerable EP studies and Radio Frequency Ablations. Dr Makkar has been trained for electrophysiology at Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, and at various places abroad.
