Fortis Escorts becomes first hospital in Faridabad to launch
Total Knee Replacement Unit
Faridabad, June 05, 2008: In the wake of increasing incidences of patients with arthritic problems and non-availability of centers in Faridabad carrying out Total Knee Replacement, Fortis Escorts today announced the launch of its new Total Knee Replacement Unit (TKR). With this Fortis Escorts becomes the first hospital in Faridabad to offer this high-end facility.
Fortis Escorts TKR unit will be equipped to conduct high end surgical procedures to provide relief to patients suffering from severe knee pain, chronic knee inflammation, knee deformity and stiffness. Under this procedure, damaged parts of the knee joints are replaced with an artificial joint (prosthesis).
The high-end surgical unit has a dedicated operation theatre and physiotherapy department to deal with post operative rehabilitation. A dedicated clinic from Monday to Saturday with special timings, 4 pm to 6 p is also being introduced. This unit will be managed by medical experts with a cumulative experience of over 50 years.
The procedure allows patients to return to normal productive life which is beneficial not only to the patients but also to their family members, apart from giving them relief from pain.
At the launch, Dr. Rajendra Sharma, COO Fortis Escorts Hospital, said, “Fortis Escorts will continue to upgrade itself and add new programs to meet increasing patient needs. Total Knee Replacement is a high end procedure that requires expertise and equipment for good success rate. We at Fortis Escorts are happy to have launched the high end facility for residents of Faridabad as there was no center performing these specialized surgeries in Faridabad. ”
“The demographic profile is suggestive of the fact that there was an urgent need of such a facility as around 20% of the Indian population is under risk category” He added.
According to Dr. Vipin Kumar Gupta, Head of Department, Total Knee Replacement, “The age group susceptible to arthritis (45 to 65yrs) is on a rise and increasing number of patients are opting for Total Knee Replacement (TKR) and Total Hip Replacement (THR). Nowadays, people suffer from major joint problems because of the sedentary lifestyle habits, poor nutrient intake and improper postures while performing routine work. Sportsmen and workers involved in excessive physical work along with people who get afflicted with joint infections may develop arthritis of the joint”
The new facility at Fortis Escorts will be headed by Dr. Vipin Kumar Gupta who is a specialist with over 20 years of experience in Joint replacement, orthopedic surgeries & Spinal injuries.
