Whenever someone is thrown into a new environment-a live situation of a collapsed, unresponsive, dead patient it brings in a lot of apprehension. This training capsule helped alleviate all fear and confusion regarding the whole act/ procedure of performing a cardiopulmonary resuscitation-albeit successfully. It was a hands on practical training on manikins. Training program included practical handling of equipment. The schedule comprised of:
- Basic Life Support- Resuscitation using bare hands.
- Advanced airway management- Intubations, use of LMA, NPA etc.
- Advanced cardiac life support-CPR with use of defibrillator and drugs.
- How to use a defibrillator.
- Understanding of basic ECG rhythms.
- Management of arrhythmias.
- Performing cardio version.
- Alert for reversible/treatable causes of cardiac arrest.
- Time bound management of stroke and acute coronary syndrome.
- Drugs used in life support measures.
The session kicked off with an icebreaker interactive session where the whole batch was divided into smaller groups who were allotted various stations. Time bound rotation on all workstation was mandatory ensuring everyone got a chance for practice. A well trained faculty comprising of AHA certified instructors (in house plus from Delhi- Fortis Vasant Kunj, Apollo hospital, Batra hospital) ensured the “students” remained on their toes. They conducted excellent mini lectures and hands on sessions. Day 1 and Day 3 ended with assessment tests for BLS and ACLS respectively. The F & B deptt. ensured full tummies for everyone with their sumptuous meals and snacks.
Needless to say that no stone was left unturned in ensuring that finally all who attended the course would prove to be an asset each time and everytime when faced with a life threatening situation.
