11 Tips to Maintain Your Kidney Health in Summer

Summers are harsh for everyone, especially in extreme temperatures which a city like Delhi can experience. Among our body parts Kidneys are more in summers, due to some factors.
Here are a few tips to maintain a good kidney health:
- If you are recurrent stone former, Kidney stones formation can get aggravated, due to dehydration especially during summers. So, drink at least 2.5 litres of water
- When ones fasting is over. The aim should be to pass clear or light-coloured Urine. If it’s dark or yellow, it means you are under hydrated. Adding some lemon to water is helpful. However, do not add salt or sugar to it.
- Reduce intake of animal proteins as it is rich in purines and uric acid. Adding fibre to diet is good not only for intestine, managing cholesterol and obesity but also good for kidney health.
- Increase intake of water rich fruits to ensure nourishment with hydration
- Dehydration increases risk of kidney injury in elderly and children. They should take extra care.
- Avoid use of over the counter painkillers
- Avoid excess intake of salt. It increases chances of stone formation and high blood pressure
- Kidney failure patients should avoid high potassium & high phosphorus diet and drink regular amounts of water during that time. However, avoid over hydration!
- Outside food are right in sugar, salt and saturated fat and in summers it can lead to food poisoning and kidney infections.
- Unaccustomed exercise without supervision can lead to dehydrations and muscles injury which can lead to kidney failure
- Lastly, never ignore warning signs of kidney issues and see your doctor immediately-
- - change in colour, amount and consistency of urine.
- - swelling on face, limbs
- - weakness, vomiting, nausea
- - high blood pressure
- - pain in flanks or abdomen
