150th Heart Transplant at Fortis Malar Hospital

31 years old female from Thiruvannamalai Dist TN, mother of 3 years old Kid was suffering from Postpartum Cardiomyopathy (deterioration of heart function post pregnancy) and had reached End Stage Heart Disease. She was admitted at Fortis Malar Hospitals Chennai on 1st April 2017, for possible deceased donor Heart Transplantation.

A potential brain dead donor was identified at JIPMER Pondicherry on 08.04.2017. Mr. Arumugam, 30 years old was declared brain dead. His family opted to vow his internal organs for donation, subsequently his heart was allocated to Fortis Malar Hospitals Chennai by TRANSTAN. Donor HEART expected to reach Fortis Malar, Chennai by 4pm today via road from JIPMER Pondicherry with the help of GREEN CORRIDOR, organized by Tamil Nadu Police Department.

The ENTIRE cost towards the Surgery in Fortis Malar Hospital is funded by TAMILNADU GOVERNMENT CHIEF MINISTER’S HEALTH SCHEME. This transplant earmarks the 150TH HEART TRANSPLANT in the history of HEART TRANSPLANTATION in India and in ASIA from a single centre that is Fortis Malar Hospital Team, Chennai.
