36 year old male enables Fortis hospital Kalyan 1st Cadaveric donation of 2022

Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, Mumbai Nov 19, 2022

Kalyan, November 19, 2022: A 36-year-old man from Thane who met with a road traffic accident, had suffered grievous injures on the head, and was subsequently declared brain dead. Admitted at Fortis Hospital Kalyan, his mother and brother consented to donate his organs, marking the first cadaveric donation and retrieval at Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, this year, on Saturday.

The family of the patient were aware about organ donation and how it would help save lives of people who were waitlisted for a donor organ. After they consented for donation Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre (ZTCC) allocated the organs. The man’s Heart, Liver and Kidneys were successfully retrieved and dispatched to be transplanted into recipients across city hospitals. Dr. Sandeep Patil, Head of Intensive Care and Dr. Rakesh Lalla, Consultant Intervention Neurologist, at Fortis Hospital, Kalyan played a pivotal role in patient management.

Speaking about the cadaveric organ donation, Dr Supriya Amey, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Kalyan, said, “Much like the recipient families, we are grateful to the bereaved family who in their time of loss thought of giving back to the society. There is a need to once again build awareness about Organ Donation, which was temporarily halted due to COVID19. This donation adds to getting the momentum towards progressive change started”

The patient is survived by his seven-year-old daughter, wife, parents, younger brother, and elder sister.
