Fortis Malar Hospital in association with MSSI (Chennai Chapter) organizes Free medical check camp for people with Multiple Sclerosis

Fortis Malar Hospital, in association with the Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (Chennai Chapter) observed the World Multiple Sclerosis Day 2016 on May 25, 2016. The event had an awareness talk by Senior Neurologist Dr Dinesh Nayak, on Multiple Sclerosis and a multi disciplinary health check by the Brain & Spine – Centre of Excellence of Fortis Malar Hospital.

Multiple Sclerosis Day

Multiple Sclerosis is a condition in which the insulating covers of nerve cells get damaged in the brain and spinal cord. This damage will affect the communication network supported by the nervous system which will result in various physical and mental disabilities. This disease of the Central Nervous System, affects its functioning unexpectedly and repeatedly , resulting in devastating disabilities in young people in the prime of their lives. It is also known as the “Crippler of the Young Adult”.

Free medical check camp at Fortis Malar

As a part of the world Multiple Sclerosis day, Fortis Malar hospital organised a free medical check camp for patients diagnosed with this disease. A team of doctors from the Brain & Spine – Centre of Excellence, lead by Dr Dinesh Nayak, screened over 40 patients. They were referred to specialists from other departments which include Gynaecology, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology and Dentistry, based on initial findings.

In the days to come, Fortis Malar Hospital will be providing these check-ups free of cost at the hospital premises for the people from less privileged economic background and suffering from Multiple Sclerosis. The hospital will also be providing counselling sessions for such patients.
