Fortis Memorial Research Institute becomes the first hospital to deploy Unified Wi-Fi architecture with 24x7 support
Fortis Healthcare today launched a state of the art neutral unified, public, Wi-Fi service in partnership with Firefly Networks at its flagship,(FMRI) in Gurgaon.
Recognizing the growing need for people to communicate with each other and remain connected, the 3G Wi-Fi facility is being provided free to all in-patients and their attendants during their stay at FMRI. Additionally, it will be available to OPD visitors at no charge for the first twenty minutes. Subscribers of Vodafone and Airtel bundled packs will also be able to use their prepaid Wi-Fi quota and connect to the hospital Wi-Fi without an extra payment.
This pilot at FMRI is in step with the company’s commitment to introduce an array of patient centric services at its hospitals. Firefly will explore the feasibility of introducing similar services at other Fortis Hospitals in India, during 2017.
“The Wi-Fi infrastructure provides carrier-grade mobile data services with an improved voice calling experience. The new infrastructure also facilitates mobility by allowing doctors and staff members to access the hospital intranet, including patient records, while on their rounds. This in turn will enable Fortis to serve its patients faster and better,” said, Dr Simmardeep Singh Gill, Zonal Director, FMRI.
“OPD patients and visitors who wish to upgrade their internet speed or those who require longer Wi-Fi use /greater bandwidth, can purchase additional coupons online or at special counters located at the hospital. Carrier-grade Wi-Fi access points have been strategically placed across the hospital to provide a seamless network experience,” explained Mr Vijay Sethi, Director, Administration and Hospitality, FMRI.
These services include:
• Complimentary 3G WiFi access to all in-patients and their guests
• All OPD patients and visitors will get free 3G Wi-Fi access for the first 20 minutes
• Coupon based payment for faster download speeds and longer use
• Mobile data offload for leading Telecom providers
• Intranet access over Wi-Fi for Fortis doctors and staff members.
With this new unified architecture, a benchmark has been set in the managed Wi-Fi services arena.
“We are proud to contribute to Fortis’ vision of making all its hospitals future-ready and look forward to the opportunity to extend this partnership nationally,” Mr Raj Sethia, CEO Firefly said at the time of the launch.
