September 21, 2022, Kolkata: On the occasion of World Lung Day, Fortis Hospital Anandpur in association with the Press Club, Kolkata organized a ‘Pulmonary Health Assessment’ Camp to raise awareness on issues related to lung health. The event was held on September 21 from 11 AM to 2 PM at Press Club, Kolkata. The free health check-up camp witnessed the participation of over XX media officials.

The camp started with a session by Dr. Shivaresmi Unnithan and Dr. Angshuman Mukherjee who spoke about how lung health can be maintained and what are things to be taken care of. After the session, the participants underwent medical tests to understand their lung health, which included Random blood sugar sampling, Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), weight check-up, and blood pressure examination. The initiative was facilitated by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors and technicians of Fortis Anandapur, Kolkata.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Sushmita Roychowdhury, Director, Pulmonology said, “It is incredibly vital that advocacy of promoting better lung health and action is conducted so that the global burden of major respiratory diseases is reduced. In Kolkata, cases related to lung health have increased substantially in the last two years especially due to Covid.  The idea behind this initiative was to raise awareness on the preventive healthcare measures, so that screening, diagnosis, and treatment of chronic lung conditions are given their due importance.”

Mr Snehasis Sur, President, Press Club, Kolkata, said, “This camp comes when lung health has become more important than ever, especially after covid. World Lung Day is an opportunity for people of different groups of professionals to increase the awareness related to lung, as the air pollution is silently damaging this major organ of the human body. Through this initiative with Fortis Hospital Anandpur, we hope that awareness about the need for early diagnosis and treatment of lung related illness will increase.
