ON WORLD HEART DAY, FORTIS HIRANANDANI HOSPITAL, VASHI, CONDUCTS CPR TRAINING FOR AUTO RICKSHAW DRIVERS

Over 100 auto rickshaw drivers were given CPR training at the hospital

September 29, 2022: On the occasion of World Heart Day, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, conducted a Cardiopulmonary Recitation (CPR) training program along with free cardiac consultation and ECG to auto rickshaw drivers, at the hospital.

During this drive, over 100 auto drivers from Mahape, Ghansoli, Vashi Rickshaw Association participated in the training, which took place on Thursday. In the day long program, four sessions of CPR technique was undertaken by these auto drivers. These groups also given guidance on first aid during road accidents by Fortis Hiranandani Hospital medical team - Head of Emergency Medicine, Vashi, Dr Preetam Gaikwad, Consultant Cardiology, Dr Prashant Pawar, along with the hospital’s nursing staff Yamini Patil, Sonam Juikar and Niishikant Chakole.

Commenting on the importance of CPR training, Dr Preetam Gaikwad, Head of Emergency Medicine, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, said, “CPR is a lifesaving technique that is extremely useful in medical emergencies. It is performed to revive the heart's pumping ability manually, thereby restoring brain function until further measures are taken to restore blood circulation and breathing in a person who has had a cardiac arrest.”

Speaking on the initiative, Mr Nitin Kamaria, Facility Director, Fortis Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi, said, “The auto rickshaw drivers spend a considerable time on time and often witness road accidents that require prompt attention. Hence, it is crucial for them to learn this techniques and Fortis Hospital Vashi is glad that they could organise such a training session. The objective of the training sessions of the timely preventative actions that can be performed in an emergency. And what better occasion than World Heart Day to focus on the importance of CPR, as they can go a long way in preventing cardiac issues." 

To ensure that more people are able to benefit from such training, the initiative will be undertaken

in various societies in Navi Mumbai, every Saturday for next few weeks.
