Based on the health condition the health care provider may prescribe the ring or may advise other birth control methods.

Using the NuvaRing:

NuvaRing insertion is a simple process. The ring has to be placed into the vagina one time every month on the first day of the first week of the menstrual cycle. Insert the NuvaRing into the vagina as prescribed on the label. Wash and dry the hands, remove the ring from the pouch, and hold the ring between the thumb and index finger. By sitting or squatting comfortably, pinch the ring to fold the ring. Then insert the folded ring into the vagina by gently pushing it with the index finger.

The ring can be in place for 3 weeks and has to be removed. A break of 1 week should be given in between before placing the next ring during the menstrual cycle. It is advisable to check the position of the ring regularly. If the ring is not inserted properly in the vagina, it may not protect from getting pregnancy. The NuvaRing has to be inserted at the same time every month to increase its effectiveness.

Removing the NuvaRing:

NuvaRing can be easily removed from the vagina. One must wash their hands before removing the ring to avoid infections. Using the index finger, feel the ring by sitting or squatting comfortably and pull the ring gently out once the grip is felt. The used ring should not be reused and should be disposed of in the pouch provided with the insert.

Effectiveness of NuvaRing:

NuvaRing is highly effective about 98% of the time when inserted properly. Its effectiveness reduces when the ring is not inserted in the vagina for about three weeks in a row. Its efficiency is reduced when it is left in the vagina for more than four weeks, if the ring slides out and is not replaced within three hours, or if the NuvaRing is exposed to high temperature or immense sunlight.
