Unveiling a Rare Sino-Orbital Ossified Tumor

Unveiling a Rare Sino-Orbital Ossified Tumor

Treated by: Dr. Suchir Maitra
ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) | Fortis Hospital, Anandpur, Kolkata
Apr 19, 2024

In a remarkable surgical feat, Dr. Suchir Maitra and Dr. MN Bhattacharyya tackled a challenging case involving a 20-year-old Bangladeshi woman presenting with longstanding right eye swelling and deviation. A CT scan unveiled a formidable adversary—a large calcified lesion nestled within the right ethmoid and frontal sinuses, encroaching upon the orbit and pressing against the optic nerve (nerve of vision).

Under general anesthesia, the surgical team embarked on a meticulous excision of the tumor via an extended Lynch Howarth incision on the right side. With deft hands, they liberated the bony growth from its confines, revealing its origins on the roof of the orbit. Carefully navigating around delicate structures, the tumor was gently extracted and irregular bone surfaces meticulously polished.

Post-surgery, the eye seamlessly returned to its natural alignment, with normal range of movement and vision was fully restored. The patient's recovery was smooth and uneventful, marking a triumphant resolution to a complex case.

This extraordinary instance underscores the significance of collaborative expertise and surgical precision in conquering rare and challenging pathologies, restoring not just health, but hope, to those in need.

Revolutionary HoLEP procedure liberates patient from massive 240gms Prostate

Revolutionary HoLEP procedure liberates patient from massive 240gms Prostate

Treated by: Dr. Shrinivas Narayan
Urology | Fortis Hospital, Anandpur, Kolkata
Apr 19, 2024

Fortis Hospital is proud to showcase the remarkable success of a recent case involving a 59-year-old male from Durgapur who presented with an unprecedentedly enlarged prostate weighing a staggering 240 gms, twelve times the normal average of 20gms. This case posed a significant challenge as the patient had been refused endoscopic surgery due to the enormous size of the prostate. Under the expert care of Dr. Shrinivas Narayan, Director of Urology, the patient underwent the Holmium Laser Enucleation of Prostate (HoLEP) method. This cutting-edge approach is minimally invasive, leading to less blood loss and quicker patient recovery.

Upon arrival at Fortis Hospital Anandapur, the patient underwent a series of examination namely, Ultrasonography of the kidney, ureters, and urinary bladder (USG-KUB). Following thorough evaluation, the diagnosis of Prostatomegaly was confirmed, prompting the decision to proceed with the surgery.

The enucleation of the using a Holmium Laser, coupled with the resection of prostate tissue with a morcellator, was performed seamlessly, resulting in an uneventful recovery for the patient. Following a brief two-day admission to the hospital, the patient was discharged on postoperative day 3, having achieved a successful urination post-surgery. We opted for the HoLEP technique as it is renowned for its advanced and highly effective approach in treating enlarged prostates. Unlike traditional open surgery, which involves cutting the prostate and removing it entirely, HoLEP replicates the procedure endoscopically without any incisions or external openings.

This successful case exemplifies Fortis hospital's commitment to excellence in urological care and showcases the expertise of Dr. Shrinivas Narayan and the entire urology team.
